A team of researchers from Checkpoint found a flaw in the software used by over 900 million Android phones

Over 900 million Android phones including the popular Samsung Galaxy S7 use a software made by a US firm called Qualcomm. Researchers from the IT security specialists Checkpoint recently found dangerous vulnerabilities in the software which could help cybercriminals to gain control of android phones and gain access to data.

It is believed that the vulnerabilities are not yet being used by cybercriminals but it is only a matter of time until they are. Cyber criminals search for vulnerabilities that they can exploit in software to gain control of users devices.

What can you do to stay protected?

All Android users should be alert when opening unknown emails, text messages and when downloading items away from the Google Play store. You should only download applications from the legitimate app stores like; Google Play, iTunes, App Store and the Microsoft store.

There currently is no update to fix the vulnerabilities in the software

Android users should be on the lookout for updates on their phone and applications. Updates are used to fix any flaws in software to keep users secure and protected.
