Customer Details Stolen in BA Breach

British Airways have announced that customers personal and financial details had been compromised in a huge data breach.

The chief executive of British Airways has announced that over 380,000 transactions have been compromised in a “sophisticated, malicious criminal attack” on its website. The transactions included information such as customers personal and financial information, the airline has said that the data did not include passport or travel details.

BA have said the breach took place between 21st August and 5th September. Customers who booked flights with BA within this timeframe have been affected by the breach. BA contacted all affected customers on Thursday.

The British Airways website and App are now working as normally with the breach resolved according to CEO Alex Cruz.

Alex Cruz added that customers who had been affected should contact their credit card bank providers and follow their instructions on how to manage the breach of data.

The National Crime Agency and National Cyber Security Centre have confirmed that they are investigating the breach and have recommended that customers change their online passwords and monitor their bank accounts for any suspicious activity.

Cyber Wise recommends that anyone who has bought tickets using the British Airways website or App should change their account passwords and check their emails for any contact from British Airways.
