The third Monday of January (21st) has been awarded the gloomy title due to a combination of post-Christmas blues, cold dark nights and the arrival of unpaid credit card bills. So, your team members may be feeling less than enthusiastic about being at work at the moment.
We know that there are some people you can’t help, but here are some ideas to make your place of work a positive one during this ‘Blue’ time:
No matter how big or small. A ‘win’ is a ‘win’ and deserves to be celebrated.
So, praise a job well done. Say “thank you.” Buy a cupcake. Take the team out for lunch.
Reflect on the week together
Take time to reflect on what you and your team have achieved during the week. Why not set aside 30 minutes to reflect on the good news of the past week and focus on any learning, that you can share with your team.
Every member of your team will have their own frustrations. By making the time to listen and keep those communication channels open, this will alleviate any concerns and increase productivity.
Do you hold regular 1:1s and team meetings? If not, it might be something to consider!
Your team members might be feeling that it is just work, work, work!
By introducing flexible hours, on a temporary or permanent basis, will allow everyone to find the perfect balance between home and work.
Motivate people to leave their comfort zones
Do you know what your team members aspirations are? Do your team members have objectives that challenge them?
Very few of us will get excited about doing the same tasks daily. By granting your team new responsibilities, you will also be providing them with new opportunities to grow and develop. This is beneficial to the individual and you – as it will make them feel valued, which can boost engagement and productivity.
